Demolition has now started at our new regeneration development! The well-known nightclub, Zanzibar, is now underway to become an exciting new lease of life for the site. We are preparing the site for a major town centre regeneration investment as bulldozers started work last week which is expected to take ten weeks to complete. The demolition is being funded as part of the Newcastle Town Deal secured by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and we will be redeveloping the site.

We are currently considering different options for it, but our preference is for a mix of community living homes that would be specially designed for over-55s, alongside potential commercial uses to make the most of this prime town centre gateway location. We know many locals, alongside a number of our colleagues here at Aspire, have fond memories of the nightlife at Zanzibar and will be sad to see it go. It is unfortunate that this site has been vacant for so long however we are excited for the new potential that this development has to regenerate this important entrance point into the Borough.

Also, we are ensuring that local residents and businesses are being informed about the progress of the demolition, as well as noise and vibration levels being carefully monitored.

The purchase of the site is our latest investment in regeneration in Newcastle-under-Lyme, which includes the upcoming £14m Holborn Place development of an older person’s community living hub in the town centre. You can find out more about this here.
