Newcastle’s first extra-care scheme, being built for Aspire Housing.
Hilary Freakley has secured her new home at Mill Rise Village by purchasing a 50% share in a 2-bed apartment. Hilary sold her house in May Bank to a first-time buyer and is very excited about her move to her new home next year.
She said: “I am a member of the Friends of Mill Rise group and have followed the progress of the development – I can’t wait to move into my new home.”
Hilary has been a member of the Friends of Mill Rise group since it was established early in 2008 and now with almost 60 members, she has become the group’s secretary.
Parwin Khaliq, Commercial Officer at Aspire Housing, said: “We are thrilled that Hilary is the first person to purchase one of the apartments. There has been a lot of interest in Mill Rise Village since we launched the sales campaign in August and we would encourage anyone who is interested to get in touch as this is an excellent opportunity to buy into the first scheme of its kind in the Borough."
She added: “We are on schedule to complete the development in Spring 2009, so anyone aged 55 or over who is interesting in either shared ownership or renting an apartment, should get in touch.”
The village enables residents to continue living independently in their own apartment, with the reassurance of care and support services available on site. Among the communal facilities available will be a lounge, hobby room, hairdresser, hot meals service, allotments and landscaped gardens, which will give residents a range of opportunities to meet with like-minded neighbours.
The village will host a state-of-the-art health centre, operated by NHS North Staffordshire, with three local GP practices, a pharmacy and community nursing service available to residents in the surrounding area.
The Friends of Mill Rise group meets monthly and gets involved in consultative activities, fundraising and discussions to influence future decisions about the scheme.
The group is open to all prospective residents and people living in the surrounding areas.
