When we interview you, we will:
Ask you some questions about your situation.
Tell you if we can assist you.
Agree the next course of action with you. This will depend on your circumstances, but may include:
- Arranging for you to stay in interim accommodation until we are able to complete our enquiries, or until permanent accommodation is available.
- Making an appointment for a more detailed interview.
- Explaining whether or not we can house you. You will then receive a follow-up letter confirming this decision. This letter will explain the decision and inform you of your right to have the decision reviewed if you are not satisfied with it.
What we will ask you
We, acting as agents for Newcastle Borough Council, have a duty to find accommodation for some people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. In order to work out if this applies to you, we will ask you some questions. The sort of questions we will ask are as follows:
- Where have you lived for the last 10 years?
- Are you subject to immigration control?
- How did you become homeless?
- Have you got somewhere to stay tonight?
- Are you likely to become homeless within 28 days?
- Do you have young children living with you, either under 16, or under 19 and still in full-time education?
- Are you or your partner pregnant?
- Do you have a disability, or some other serious health problem, such as a mental illness?
- Are you homeless or threatened with homelessness because of domestic violence or racial harassment
