Our Housing Advice Team under the Housing Services Manager, Wendy Lamont delivers the Homelessness and Housing Advice service on behalf of Newcastle Borough Council. One of their major drivers is the Prevention of Homelessness by providing expert advice and assistance in such areas as:-
- Liaison with landlords, family and friends
- Private rented sector advice
- Referral to other agencies
- Money and benefits advice
- Allocations policy advice
- Real options
Their role is also to assess homelessness applications following the Legislation and Code of Guidance. The five elements of a homelessness application that is considered are;
- Eligibility,
- Homelessness
- Priority Need,
- Unintentionality
- Local Connection
