Housing Advice

Our Housing Advice Team under the Housing Service Manager, Wendy Lamont will be delivering the Homelessness and Housing Advice service on behalf of Newcastle Borough Council. One of their major drivers is the Prevention of Homelessness by providing expert advice and assistance in such areas as:-

  • Liaison with landlords, family and friends
  • Private rented sector advice
  • Referral to other agencies
  • Money and benefits advice
  • Allocations policy advice
  • Realistic assessment of alternative housing options

They will be assessing cases in terms of eligibility, homeless, priority need, unintentionally homeless and local connection to Newcastle- under-Lyme.

Their role is also to assess homelessness applications following the Legislation and Code of Guidance. The five elements of a homelessness application that is considered are;

  • Eligibility,
  • Homelessness
  • Priority Need,
  • Unintentionality
  • Local Connection

Currently a team of eight, this will grow to a team of 16 by 1st September 2009 ready for Aspire Housing to pick up their new contract with Newcastle Borough Council as Newcastle Housing Advice, and also to include the new Lettings team.

The Lettings Team will cover such activities as Void management, the offers, pro-active customer involvement and Choice Based Lettings when it commences later in the year.
