Some assured tenants of registered social landlords, such as Aspire Housing, have the right to buy their homes – this is called the ‘Right to Aquire’.
The Right to Aquire does not apply to people who are under ‘Starter Tenancies’ (i.e. 12 month introductory tenancies). The terms under which you can buy you home are similar but not identical to the main Right to Buy – the main difference relates to the level of discount you will receive.
Under the Right to Buy, the level of discount relates to the number of years you have been a tenant. Under the Right to Aquire, a flat rate discount is offered which varies on an area basis.
