Extended payments are an extra 4 weeks Housing Benefit at the amount you have been getting if your benefit stops. This may be because you start work, increase the number of hours you work, or your wages increase.
How to Claim
You do not need to make a written claim. If you get Lone Parents Benefit Run-on, you do not need to claim Extended Payments of Housing Benefit. If you are starting, or have started, full time work and this is expected to last for at least 5 weeks, you must within 4 weeks notify:
- your Social Security office if you are on Income Support or
- your local Jobcentre if you are on Income-based Jobseekers Allowance or
- your local council
Who Qualifies?
Have you or your partner:
- been getting for at least 26 weeks Jobseekers Allowance or Income Support or a combination of the two?
- stopped getting income-based JSA or Income Support because you have started work, increased the number of hours you work, or your wages have increased?
If YES to both, claim extended payment of Housing Benefit.
Please note, you must expect the work to last for at least 5 weeks.
If you have been getting Lone Parents Benefit Run-on for two weeks, you will automatically be able to get Housing Benefit extended for another two weeks.
