What are Estate Walkabouts and when is the next one?

The aims of Estate Walkabouts are to:

  • Ensure the grounds maintenance contractor is carrying out work in accordance with the Grounds Maintenance contract.
  • Ensure the communal cleaning in being undertaken in accordance with the communal cleaning contract.
  • Identify and report items of disrepair to communal areas.
  • Identify and take appropriate action in relation to breaches of tenancy.
  • Identify and ensure the timely removal of graffiti.
  • Identify and ensure the timely removal of fly tipping.
  • Maintain/ improve estate standards.
  • Forge effective partnerships with statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • Forge effective partnerships with local customers, representatives and residents’ groups.
  • Identify environmental improvements for inclusion into the Neighbourhood Maintenance Plan.
  • Identify improvements that can be made to make the neighbourhood more accessible for disabled customers and those with children for example.

An Estate Walkabout involves the Neighbourhood Officer, Neighbourhood Surveyor and the Grounds Maintenance Surveyor for each area. Residents, private owners and key members of the community and wider partnerships are also invited.

Estate walkabouts will be carried out on a regular basis. In deciding the frequency of walkabouts, consideration will be given to the issues relating to that estate such as the streetscene cleanliness, garden maintenance, complaints, number of communal areas, number of flats, feedback from customers and partners.
