A number of washing machines manufactured by Whirlpool are due to be recalled. This includes Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines sold since 2014.

To check whether your model is affected, you should make a note of the model and serial number on your machine – found on the inside of the back of the door – and check it against the online model checker here.

If you think you have one of the affected washing machines in your home, you should contact Whirlpool via the free helpline on 0800 316 1442. You will then be able to register for machine repair or replacement.

To eliminate any risk, your appliance should be unplugged and not used until it is repaired or replaced by a trained engineer

This latest recall comes several months after the government issued a recall of any Whirlpool tumble dryers that may pose a fire safety risk.

This includes machines made by Hotpoint, Creda and Indesit.

The full list of affected tumble dryer models can be found on the Which website, along with a guide to help you understand your consumer rights:

If you have one of the affected Whirlpool tumble dryers in your home, you should unplug it immediately and contact the company on 0800 151 0905. You should not use the dryer until it’s been fixed.
