Children across Staffordshire will have a spring in their step this April, thanks to an Easter egg appeal by Aspire Housing and Tesco.

The Easter egg appeal has smashed last year’s record of more than 500 eggs, leaving organisers amazed at the generosity of the Staffordshire community.

Aspire Housing and Tesco have partnered for the seventh year running to collect chocolate eggs to support local children’s charities across Staffordshire and Cheshire.

Sharon Battiste, Customer Engagement Advisor at Aspire Housing, said: “It really makes you proud to see how consistently generous the Staffordshire public are. This is the seventh year we’ve run the Easter egg appeal and we’re delighted to say that it was a resounding success once again.

“An Easter egg may seem like such a trivial thing to donate, but it’s little things like a chocolate treat on Easter Sunday that really make a huge difference to some of the less fortunate children in our region.”

Hundreds of donated eggs will be handed over to recipients at Kidsgrove Care Solutions on Monday 15th April in time for the Easter weekend.

The donated Easter eggs will be gifted to local charities including Kidsgrove Care Solutions, Families First and Peter Pan, to give to children who wouldn’t normally get anything at Easter.

Richard Stephenson-Evans, Group Lead Champion at Tesco, commented: “It’s great to join forces with Aspire Housing for a seventh year for such a good cause, and I know that Tesco colleagues across our stores have enjoyed seeing the eggs piling up in the donation trolleys.

“It means so much to the local charities and, of course, children who benefit from this. Every donated egg will put a smile on a child’s face, and that makes it all worthwhile.”

“We are especially grateful to the amazing Tesco customers who have donated to this year's appeal, adding to the donations from Tesco, Aspire and other local businesses.”

The confectionery collections have been taking place at 16 local branches of Tesco, including Hanley, Meir Park, Trent Vale, Kidsgrove, Congleton, Longton, Crewe, Uttoxeter, and Tesco Express stores throughout Staffordshire and Cheshire.
