An adaptation is a change or alteration in or around your home which allows you to live more independently, or to allow you and/or your carer greater safety and mobility.

Typical minor adaptations are works of a non-urgent kind and usually involve small jobs that can be programmed into our repairs schedule. This includes things such as:
- Grab rails (internal or external)
- Lever taps if you are struggling to turn your current taps
- A step or small ramp to make it easier for you to get in and out of your home
- Additional handrail on your staircase
Once you submit the form, we’ll review your request and confirm what we can do, along with next steps and timescales.

Adaptations which your Council can do
Typical major adaptations are larger scale changes to your home that require a referral from an occupational therapist. These include:
- Level-access showers
- Over-bath showers
- Stair lifts
- Wash/dry toilets
- Adapted kitchens
- Through-floor lifts
- Hoists
