We visit all our homes once every five years to carry out a home improvement survey. These help us with long-term improvements to our homes and allow us to make them safer for our customers and their families.

What is a Home Improvement Survey?

A home improvement survey is a visual inspection of the inside and outside of your home; it will take approximately 30 minutes. The surveyor collects information on the condition of your home, they will assess the age and condition of major elements in your home, such as the kitchen, bathroom, windows and doors.

This will help us to decide how long these major elements of your home are likely to last before they need replacing.

The survey does not collect information on any outstanding repairs to your home. If you need a repair visit our report a repair page.

Is there anything I need to do during the survey?

Please make sure you're at home for your appointment. During the visit, our colleague will need to look in your loft to check your insulation, your central heating system, kitchen and bathroom as well as the front and back of your home. Please ensure these areas are easy to access during the survey.

We'd ask that you don't smoke and keep any pets under control while our colleague is inside your home.

What do I need to do?

There may be a need for you to move furniture or belongings before the survey takes place so that we can access all areas. e.g. if your boiler is in the airing cupboard. You will receive a letter to inform you of the appointment date and ask that you let us know if you can’t make the appointment. Some of the items we will be checking:

Kitchens

Bathrooms

Heating systems

Windows and doors

Roof and guttering

General structure of the property

 Insulation
