Aspire Housing completes second phase of £20 million regeneration project in Chesterton

Building work has officially completed on the second phase of Aspire Housing’s £20 million regeneration project in Chesterton, Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Silkworks at Cross Street provides a collection of 43 new homes, including one-bed apartments and two-bed and three-bed affordable homes to rent.

Dan Gray, Executive Director of Place at Aspire Housing, said: “We’re so pleased to complete the second phase of our Chesterton regeneration project, investing significant funds into the local area and continuing the journey that began in 2018.

“We were delighted to introduce 9 new homes in 2022 as part of phase one, and now we’re thrilled to see our customers enjoy these brand-new homes, creating important memories together.

“Thank you to all those who have been involved in the project, supporting us from our initial consultations to present day, and thank you to those who joined us for our handover event.

“We can’t wait to see the Chesterton community continue to grow and thrive, especially as we introduce more homes in phase three of our regeneration project.”

The completion of the Silkworks at Cross Street site was commemorated with a handover event, welcoming Adam Jogee MP, local councillors, Homes England, and development partners to showcase the new homes and to discuss the exciting regeneration work taking place.

Lewis Young, Senior Manager – Affordable Housing Delivery at Homes England, said: “As the Government’s housing and regeneration agency, increasing the supply of quality affordable homes remains one of our key objectives and we are committed to supporting ambitious housebuilders of all sizes to build those homes and communities.

“This investment through the Affordable Homes Programme does just that, enabling Aspire Housing to build 43 much needed new homes the people of Newcastle-Under-Lyme can be proud of.”

This project has been part-funded by Homes England and Newcastle Town Deal as part of a joint partnership journey to transform the area.

The third phase of this project is currently in development, with estimated completion by the end of 2026, providing an additional 39 bungalows exclusively for over-55s.
