Good Neighbour Guide
Being a good neighbour means more than just sticking to your tenancy agreement. It’s about being considerate, approachable, and friendly - helping to make your community a better place for everyone.
- Noise: Keep noisy work (like drilling or vacuuming) between 8am and 8pm. Be mindful with doors late at night, and keep TVs, radios, and games at a reasonable volume - especially in flats where sound travels easily.
- Cars and parking: Don’t park caravans or motorhomes in communal car parks. Avoid major repairs in communal areas, clean up any mess, and always park responsibly in marked bays - most parking is communal unless you have a designated space.
- Gardens: Keep your garden tidy, mow the lawn, weed beds, and dispose of rubbish promptly. For communal gardens, keep them clean and litter-free.
- Pets: Don’t leave pets alone for long, prevent nuisance barking, and always clean up after your pet. Make sure cats have a litter box, and follow your scheme’s pet policy if you have one.
- Flats with communal spaces: Use bins provided, keep areas tidy, and don’t let strangers into the building. Arrange for bulky items to be collected, report communal repairs promptly, and keep doors locked for everyone’s safety.
- Communal spaces: Always keep these areas clear—they’re a fire risk if blocked.
- Qualities of a good neighbour: Be considerate, approachable, and friendly.
- Common issues: Noise and parking are the most frequent problems. If your pet causes a nuisance, take steps to resolve it quickly.
