A memorial poppy garden is set to commemorate the Silverdale soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War.

The Royal British Legion and Realise charity part of the We Are Aspire group that includes Aspire Housing are working together to create the memorial poppy garden, which will honour the 123 soldiers from Silverdale who sacrificed their lives one-hundred years ago.

The memorial will feature a remembrance pathway, plaque and landscaped garden surrounded by 123 steel poppies, which have been crafted by local apprentices from PM Training. The memorial is located on Church Street, Silverdale, next to the Church of St Luke.  We have over 500 properties in the area, with many just a few minutes away from this incredible display

Will Nixon, Chief Executive of Realise charity, said: “One hundred years ago the First World War ended and the world we live in today was shaped forever. The poppy garden is great project to be involved in and a wonderful opportunity for local people to remember those we lost, and give a little back to thank those who served, sacrificed and changed our world.”

The involved charities are offering communities, business leaders and individuals the chance to be part of the history by making a donation to support the project.

All profits will be donated to The Royal British Legion to help support Staffordshire veterans, soldiers and their families to achieve better health, gain employment and learn new skills.

Annemarie Jones, Community Fundraiser for the Legion, said: “This year, the Legion is inviting the public to say ‘Thank You’ to those who served, sacrificed and changed our world: those who fell on the battlefields, those who returned and those who served on the home front, in the farms and factories. The poppy garden is therefore a brilliant example of how we can recognise that generation’s courage and sacrifices and provide a place for future generations to say Thank You this year.”

The memorial poppy garden will be unveiled on Sunday 11th November 2018. You can support and make a donation here.
